The 5 Love Languages of Introverts | TIS Ep. 20

The 5 Love Languages of Introverts | TIS Ep. 20

Episode Summary:

Introverts have the unfortunate reputation of not being the happiest of people. But, is that even true? The sisters think not. In fact, they believe that like most people, introverts have “love languages”: things that make them feel happy, and able to be their best selves. Tune in as Sharon and Lisa each reveal their introvert love languages. Plus: This has been a summerless summer. No trips, no festivals, no vacations, nothing. They even cancelled Crop Over in Barbados. The girls discuss what they did instead of their usual summer activities.

3 Big Takeaways:

  1. One-on-one convos are the best: “Those conversations that you have one on one are important. Those are where the magic happens.”
  2. Introverts need their quiet time: “Give me some time. Give me some space, with no ambient noise. Just complete quiet. A little bit of sensory deprivation, almost.”
  3. Most introverts are homebodies, and that’s ok: “My home is my sanctuary. It is my haven.”

11 Shady Things You Should Never Say to an Introvert | TIS Ep. 19

11 Shady Things You Should Never Say to an Introvert | TIS Ep. 19

Episode Summary:

Introverts (like most people) have their pet peeves. And those include the misguided, shady, and hurtful things that others can say to us in order to get us to…not be us?? We can only assume that that’s the reason behind it. Tune in as we discuss the tone-deaf things that extroverts often say to introverts. Plus: since wfh life is the new normal for so many of us, does this mean that “work clothes” are dead? Does anybody need formal business attire? Or do we only need shorts/sweatpants, a pair of “good jeans,” and a few Zoom-appropriate tops and shirts?

3 Big Takeaways:

  1. Check your tone and be mindful of your word usage: “Why would you come up to somebody and say ‘I thought you were really stuck up.’ ?” How do you start a conversation that way?”
  2. There’s room for every personality type: “This is not to say that being extroverted is a bad way to be. It’s a great way to be. I just don’t think that everybody has to be that way.”
  3. Stop trying to force introverts to come out of their shell: “As an introvert, I like my shell. I don’t want to ‘just get out there.’ I want to be in here!”

Why Introverts Love Working Remotely and Don’t Miss The Office | TIS Ep. 18

Why Introverts Love Working Remotely and Don’t Miss The Office | TIS Ep. 18

Episode Summary:

Working from home has (thankfully) become the norm, and like so many other people, the sisters are big fans. Listen in to hear why they’re loving the work from home life, and why they are not missing the office, not even for a second. Plus: Have your elastic waist pants been lying to you? Have you put on a few pandemic pounds? The sisters both have. Tune in as Sharon and Lisa share what they’ve been doing to shed the extra weight and achieve their wellness goals.

3 Big Takeaways:

  1. On office life  and introversion: “As an introvert, when you’re in an open-plan office it makes you less productive, less focused, and less efficient.”
  2. On office life and extroversion: “Extroverts feed on social stimulation, while introverts get drained by it.”
  3. On #WFH and productivity: “Working from home helps me achieve more in less time.”

The Sweet, Introverted Spirit of Elijah McClain #gonetoosoon: | TIS Ep. 17

The Sweet, Introverted Spirit of Elijah McClain #gonetoosoon: | TIS Ep. 17

Episode Summary:

Police violence against Black people and the trait of introversion come to a bizarre, painful, and tragic confluence in the case of Elijah McClain. The sisters, like all BIPOC, were shocked and devastated to learn about this gentle introvert’s murder at the hands of police. Join them as they unpack what happened, and discuss why, no matter how non-threatening you attempt to appear, every Black person is always at risk of losing their life to the police at any time. Plus: From fireworks to lynchings, it seems as though there is an outright war on Black and brown people in the U.S. Listen in as we discuss it all.

3 Big Takeaways:

  1. Let us live.: “In our world as introverts and Black people, we just want to be left alone to live our lives.”
  2. Stop weaponizing whiteness.: “Why are people weaponizing whiteness? (I’m talking to you, the Karens of the world.)”
  3. Stay woke, and do your research: “Were it not for George Floyd, would we even have heard about Elijah McClain? Because clearly his case had been buried.”

Don’t be a Lazy Anti-Racist: Stop Performing Allyship and #Dothework: . | TIS Ep. 16

Don’t be a Lazy Anti-Racist: Stop Performing Allyship and #Dothework: . | TIS Ep. 16

Episode Summary:

In the first episode of Season 2, the sisters catch up on what’s been happening since the break. And it’s a lot. Lisa has some big news, Sharon is making professional strides, and they both are both more committed than ever to fighting racism. Up for discussion: how their summer is going (hint: it’s not, lol), and how life has changed since the beginning of what is effectively the 2020 #blacklivesmatter revolution. Covering everything from wfh life, to the ongoing pandemic, to diversity, to the distraction of performative allyship (yes, Nancy Pelosi et al really did kneel down while draped in kente cloth), the conversation just keeps flowing. Plus, Lisa explains why in the midst of it all she is prioritizing self-care.

3 Big Takeaways:

  1. Stay safe. The pandemic isn’t over.: “I’m still not ready to be in spaces filled with crowds of people that I do not know.”
  2. Stay focused. Continue to #dothework.: “This is a ‘Seize the Moment’ moment. People are listening, so now is the time to write, and share, and do what you can.”
  3. Say ‘No’ to performative allyship.: “If the only Black person in your company is your Diversity Officer, you still have work to do.”

A Belated Introduction to the Introvert Sisters

Let us introduce ourselves. (Yes, we know it’s a bit late, seeing as we’re a whole season in, but that’s the nature of things these days.) We’ve talked a bit about ourselves throughout the season, but with Season 2 coming up in a couple of weeks, it’s time for a proper introduction. So here goes:

BEHIND THE MIC

As you know, our names are Lisa and Sharon, aka The Introvert Sisters.  We really ARE sisters. Sharon is Big Sis, and Lisa is Little Sis. We’re a two-woman hosting, production, editorial and IT team, lol. We take a “divide and conquer” approach to make sure we can get it all done. If you’re talking to us on Instagram and Facebook, you’re most likely talking to Lisa. But if you’re responding to an email or blog post, then you’re probably talking to Sharon. YouTube could go either way. Read More
